ABOUT DESTINATION 

Set like a jewel in the middle of the crystal waters and listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site, the Ouvéa atoll has landscapes worthy of the world’s most beautiful postcards. New Caledonia’s longest beach, Fayaoué Beach, can be found on the island of Ouvéa – a stunning 22km of unbroken, powder-white sand where crystal waters, rich in both marine and reef biodiversity, make for excellent snorkelling and diving. 

 

The approximately 4,300 residents of Ouvea Island draw their origins from both Melanesian and Polynesian roots, and for this reason two languages are spoken in Ouvéa – Iaaï, a kanak language and faga-uvea, a language of Polynesian origin.

 

In the 1970s, a young Japanese writer called Katsura Morimura made no mistake: seduced by the beauty of the island and the warm welcome she received, she titled her novel “The Island Closest to Paradise”. Ouvea is a popular island for Honeymooners.

Thatched Hut

Chez Dydyce is located in Banout tribal village, five minutes from Ouvea Airport and opposite famous Fayaoué Beach. At Chez Dydyce, Rachelle will give you a taste of her blue-grouper fritters. And her husband, Pierre, will take you to Gece islet for unforgettable diving.

Bungalow

The Beaupré hotel is located in Hnyimaha tribal village, opposite Fayaoué Beach, one of the most beautiful white sand beaches of Ouvea. This  boutique hotel features 12 comfortable bungalows, many leisure activities and is well known for its warm welcome. Restaurant offers local specialities and freshly caught fish for lunch and dinner (on reservation only). They will be happy to organise or book for you an island tour or an excursion to the beautiful outer islets.

Garden Bungalow

Renovated in 2018, Paradis d’Ouvea is located on the magnificent Mouli Beach. In a postcard setting, it offers stunning views of the lagoon with its endless shades of turquoise. This luxury hotel offers high-quality service and spacious bungalows. There is a restaurant facing the sea and a pool bar. The Paradis d'Ouvea resort can provides Mountain bikes and snorkelling equipment, you also can book an island tour or a lagoon tour.
