Ouvea, Loyalty Islands- 3 Days / 2 Nights
Short Break Package
Tour Code: NCP17
Set like a jewel in the middle of the crystal waters and listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site, the Ouvéa atoll has landscapes worthy of the world’s most beautiful postcards. New Caledonia’s longest beach, Fayaoué Beach, can be found on the island of Ouvéa – a stunning 22km of unbroken, powder-white sand where crystal waters, rich in both marine and reef biodiversity, make for excellent snorkelling and diving.
The approximately 4,300 residents of Ouvea Island draw their origins from both Melanesian and Polynesian roots, and for this reason two languages are spoken in Ouvéa – Iaaï, a kanak language and faga-uvea, a language of Polynesian origin.
In the 1970s, a young Japanese writer called Katsura Morimura made no mistake: seduced by the beauty of the island and the warm welcome she received, she titled her novel “The Island Closest to Paradise”. Ouvea is a popular island for Honeymooners.
You can stay at the Beaupre Hotel, experience the luxurious Paradis d’Ouvea Resort or immerse yourself in kanak life with a Homestay (Acueil en Tribu) in a traditional hut, built using wood and either straw or coconut palm fronds.
